Qualifying Competitions and New Handicaps Update

Although England Golf / WHS are promoting players to return qualifying scores throughout the year; due the very wet conditions during the winter, the Management and Golf Committee have agreed that Qualifying Competitions at Tytherington will cease until 2022 (qualifying scores will be accepted from other English courses and / overseas golf courses provided they meet WHS conditions)

New Handicaps using the measured Green Course

We have arranged that the measured "Green Course" will be available for members to complete cards for their NEW HANDICAPs.

The Slope of the green course for men will be 129, and the ladies 140

Please Note: as course work will be continuing on tees; the green's staff will NOT be putting out physical green tee markers, but will ensuring that the location of the green tees is identified

Players must REGISTER their intention to submit a score for a New Handicap Index with GOLF RECEPTION OR VIA THE (IG) INTELLIGENT GOLF APP.

Completed cards need to be returned and placed in the "Handicaps Box" by Golf Reception or sent by email to Martyn Harris or Jill Hone

At Tytherington, the use of the measured Green course is restricted to those members submitting scores for New Handicaps and for members selected to play in early Club Matches

Returning scores from other "AWAY" courses (UK or Abroad):

Following the announcement by England Golf, during the winter period Members can return cards for New Handicap Index and Registered Social Scores from other WHS affiliated Golf Courses, HOME AND ABROAD.

  • BUNKERS: must be played "as the ball lies" and in accordance with the "R&A RULES OF GOLF". If they are marked GUR See Rule 16.1 of the Rules of Golf. You may find some or all bunkers on courses are marked as "˜Ground under Repair' during challenging weather conditions.

  • In these circumstances, the bunker is treated as "˜Abnormal Course Conditions' and free relief can be taken as per the Rule 16.1 above

  • Upon completion of their round, the score card must be completed with all the required information, including the marker's name.

England Golf directive: No qualifying scores for handicap will be accepted where "Preferred Lies THROUGH the green" meaning any general area, excluding hazards

The Tytherington Handicap Committee would like to remind members that returning such qualifying scores during the winter period may not produce a clear reflection of their playing ability; especially when using winter mats and where bunkers are classed as "Ground under repair"
